Democratic Party platform revisions on abortion
Read the story and tell us what you think. Are the Democrats for real or is the plank revision mere rhetoric aimed at prolife swing voters?

Sorry, my last subject should have been addressed to Olein.
It's cruel to advocate outlawing abortion without offering help to women who are torn apart by today's work pressures.
There are many reasons people get abortions other than we do not live in utopia. Asking people to take personal responsibility is more cruel to you than partial birth abortions with no anesthesia, not to mention the horrible emotional pain women feel years after getting abortions.
Outlawing abortion does not eliminate abortion.
Outlawing stealing does not eliminate stealing, but it does reduce stealing. Sadly, liberal “thought” is based upon feelings rather than logic.
Abortion (apparently) is higher based upon the pressure of the current corporate world.
Can’t you think of other reasons such as being personally selfish? Abortion rates are high in socialist utopias of Russia and Sweden.
A market based economy is idolatry. Placing dominant power in government is apparently not idolatry.
Read from the great economist Thomas Sowell. A market based economy works becuase it allocates scarce resources based upon the individual decisions of millions of people in a more efficient way than any all powerful government agency can hope to do. Prominent playwright and liberal, David Marmet, answering a challenge from his rabbi to open his mind and consider the thoughts of his opponents, read Thomas Sowell extensively. He praised Sowell as America’s greatest living philosopher in his "coming out" essay “Why I am no Longer a Brain-Dead Liberal’” published in the Village Voice.
Where will we stand in the future, when abortion is finally seen to be what it is-evil. What will we tell our families or what will they say about us?
We supported abortion because we didn't know better, it was legal and our society deemed it proper. Sounds familiar to other issues of the past-slavery, Nazi concentration camps, etc. My family is from the south and historically, were prejudiced. I am ashamed to say that was bad and wrong even though it was a way of life in the south, legal and thought to be the only legitimate way for African Americans to live in our country. Some things are just wrong. I will be proud to tell my grandkids that I stood up for the unborn, and yes I am a Republican, just as Republicans stood up for slaves in the beginning days of the party's existence, so they now stand for the rights of the unborn.
John McCain is anti life - he does not support abortion but has an utter disregard for women. I do not support abortion but making it illegal will not stop it. We must not judge another human and if a woman makes that choice she should not be punished by not having access to proper medical care.
With the current economic crisis John McCain stated in the debate clearly that he does not choose to cut or stop defense spending. Supporting this very unjust war does not support life.
Barack Obama has been a community organizer and is interested in the common good of ordinary people like my family. Big business may be necessary, but their greed has run rampant and John McCain seems very indifferent to all except the rich and powerful. I am very very tired of liberal being a dirty word-my vote is for Senator Obama and it would be for him no matter what the church or anyone else says. I do not believe John McCain follows any kind of social justice teaching-Catholic or otherwise..
and they have made an art of pretending to be one thing while they are another.
Their position on abortion has not changed one iota. They want it considered a constitutional right. They want taxpayers to fund it. They want it up until the moment before birth. And they want to increase the number because they fight against abstinence education and for NARAL and Planned Parenthood's goal of making children at puberty their new customers. They want the right to abortion encoded in every United Nations statement. They fight against medical providers, doctors and pharmacist's who argue they will not perform abortions or provide abortificants.
There is no denying Democrats are totally in favor of abortions and the more the better because they owe Planned Parenthood and NARAL a payback for all the donations they receive to help re-elect them.
I'm so surprised to read the many comments from those who believe the only reason to vote for McCain is his pro-life stance. Yes, that is one of the many reasons, but certainly not the only for Catholics. I do think it must be re-stated time and again that Obama is for abortion up to the 9th month. Democrats can say all they want about wishing the numbers were reduced, but the fact of the matter is that they don't truly believe it. When we live in a culture where it is common-place to abort fetuses shown to have Down's Syndrome (upwards of 90% of the time in some reports) our culture is, for lack of a bettr way to state it, morally in trouble.
Why is it that it is an oft heard phrase that the Republicans are for "big business" as if it were evil? Where do we think we would be without big business and all that business has added to our lives and creature comforts? Not to mention break-throughs in technologies that allow for cleaner air, water, EARTH. The liberal media has brainwashed us to believe that there are two sides - those who care about the earth and those who don't. It's unfair and untrue. Only 2 of the countries who signed up for Kyoto Treaty actually decrease emissions, most of the rest increased them. All it would have done for the U.S. would have put us in a financial mess for nothing. We HAVE actually decreased emmisssions without signing. Anybody thinking to thank the Republicans, or big business, for that?
But, I digress. I don't see why the outcry about the profits of Exxon/Mobile. They are an American company, with American stockholders, who pay American workers good money. They provide us with a product we all need and use daily. Not to mention that a full HALF of their profits are paid to the U.S. government in taxes! What is so wrong with them making a profit? As far as I know, profit, isn't a bad word or a sin. If it is, I believe many of us are in some trouble.
When we actually look at the two candidates, they agree on more than they disagree. John McCain is a known agent of change and has a record to show for it. Barrack Obama, I believe, has the best of intentions - unfortunately not a lot in his resume to back it up. Let's let him legislate some change in the Senate before we give him the reins.
I cannot vote for McCain. He is anti-life. For unjust war and capital punishment. Pro-business and indifferent to the many women in a competitive work environment where pregnancy and babies are regarded as disloyalty to their corporation and a hindrance to business as usual. It's cruel to advocate outlawing abortion without offering help to women who are torn apart by today's work pressures.
Both sides may be trying to manipulate Catholics. But the Dems are offering a way, in their platform, for "prochoice" and "prolife" Catholics to work together to reduce the numbers of abortions.
After all, over 40% of abortions worldwide are illegal. Outlawing abortion does not eliminate abortion. WWJD? Legislate against, or love and work to ease the tensions of, pregnant women faced with tremendous pressures to comform to our current corporate world?
The strong pro-business stance is trusting that greed will be transformed into good by The Invisible Hand Of The Market. This is idolatry. I can't vote for it.
Abortion is an unequivacal evil, that said what does a catholic do? If roe/wade were disabled by the court, it would not save a single unborn. States would then vote, over time, and few changes would occur, and this after many years.
Also, if roe were disabled, the back alley would remain [the rich of course have other options] and those 70%, the poor, who have abortions would still be victums.
I suggest, in all hope, that Mother Teresa's idea [to Hillary Clinton] to set up "life clinics"
is NOW action for Democrats who SAY they want few abortions. Thus, if planned parenthood receives 350$ million per year from govt., and it has 700 clinics in country: why not set up 700 life clinics accros the street?
Let the LC's give housing, etc, ANYTHING, to allow the birth. Then adoption, etc can be utilized. If we are willing to spend 350 million to kill babies, lets spend same to save them. Then the words of Obama, to be open to ideas to decrease abortion, would have some substance.
In the meantime, although I see obama to be right about all, except abortion, I can not vote for him: fully knowing McCain is wrong on everything except, as with Bush, life issue.
